Psalm 1:2 “But his delight is only in the Law of Jehovah; and in His Law he meditates day and night.”
Sometimes we miss an important message in this Psalm. We get caught up in what it looks like to “Meditate?” How do we meditate on scripture? For the sake of this conversation, let us look at what it means to meditate “Day and night.”
“Engagement” could refer to how we read the Bible and how we apply its teachings to our lives. This is straightforward, making sense at the surface level. However, when we look at how the word of God is considered “Living and active,” then consider how we “engage” the bible, could there be a deeper meaning? Something more intimate? Glenn Pauw speaks of a “Paradigm Shift.” Maybe if we shift our paradigm, as he suggests, we will begin to see how the Bible is “living and active.”
In my search for the English definition of “Engagement,” a word jumped out at me. Betrothed. “Betrothal was a binding contract and was considered marriage in God’s eyes.” Looking back at Psalm 1:2, “Meditating Day and Night” is a serious level of commitment. Are we making our engagement to meditating on the word of God day and night seriously? Is it Intimate as a betrothed relationship should be? Are we just interacting with the bible, or is it the most special time we have in the day? Do we get excited and look forward to our bible study time? Is our engagement with the bible creating a change that noticeably bears fruit?
What if we run to our Bibles like we used to run to our sins?
Be Blessed!
